What is Component Protection?
Each control module is locked with Component Protection data, and stores a crypt code of the model and the matching CAN Gateway of the original vehicle. When a part / module is installed in another vehicle, the code contained in the new CAN Gateway does not match. This triggers an anti-theft feature and Component Protection Fault / DTC. As a result, the part will now be limited to being partially operable — until the CP has been removed and reconfigured for the current vehicle.

What Is VAG Component Protection?
Component protection is a security lock applied by the Volkswagen group to lock each module to a specific car which stops stolen parts to be installed in another vehicle.
